To those who have not been within the four walls since completing their studies, especially the older one, the Humbird School would at present elicit at exclamation of surprise. The building is now conveniently arranged for the accommodation of the large and increasing number of students and now that the high school course has been made four years, the work of the school will be more readily seen in this community.
New apparatus is being constantly added for use in the higher grades and the library, while not adequate to the needs of the school is being increased as the opportunity is offered.
The power that makes the school go is the sentiment which exists in any community in favor of it. If it is hearty and intelligent the school will do much more for the children. If this interests and sympathy are wanting the school will fall but little short of failure, no matter how competent or how well trained the teachers are. It is a pleasure to note that a sentiment strongly in favor of a good school exists here and it is steadily growing stronger.
The district board is to be congratulated on securing a corps of competent teachers whose heart is in the work of their several departments, and who are working united for the betterment of the educational facilities of the community.
The school is organized as a township high school and all the territory contiguous to the village is included in the district, the several schools being under the direction of the principal. The present list of teachers is as follows:
- Principal - Marvin Jahr
- Assistant - George Carter
- Grammar - Miss Hazel Heath
- Wilbur district - Miss Maude Campbell
- Lightfoot district - Miss Beatrice Free
-
One other district belongs to the list, the Cotton School, which at the time of the writing of this article is without a teacher on account of the resignation of Miss Rill Page, and is being supplied by Miss Alice Fowler.
Visitors are welcome in each department and if you have a child in attendance it is a duty you owe both the child and to the school to go and see what is its progress.
