Scheffer, Frank John (27 July 1879 - 16 January 1964)

 

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fairview, near Humbird, for Frank J. Scheffer, 85, of Humbird, who died Saturday in Neillsville. The Rev. Mathew Malinaro officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. 

 

Frank John Scheffer was born July 27, 1879, in Germany. At the age of two, he came with his parents, the late Frank and Elizabeth (Bergeman) Scheffer, to the United States. The family settled on a farm in the Town of Mentor, where he had lived for the last 83 years.

 

In September 1907, he was married to the former Clara Fassbender, who died in 1959.

 

Mr. Scheffer was a director of the Jackson Electric Cooperative for several years; served on the Mentor School board; was a director of the Fairchild Farmers Cooperative; and a director of the Lynn Mutual Insurance Company for many years.

 

He is survived by seven children: Anthony of Prescott, Ariz.; Bernard of Humbird; Robert of Prairie du Chien; Walter of Norman, Okla.; Mrs. Raymond (Marian) Monnot of White Fish Bay; Mrs. Louis (Anita) Durst of Sauk City; and Francis Scheffer of Mequon.  Other survivors are 30 grandchildren; and five sisters; Mrs. Theresa Durst of La Crosse, Sister Monica SSND of Milwaukee, Miss Ada Scheffer of Middle Ridge and Misses Marie and Ann Scheffer, both of Eau Claire.

 

A general rosary service was said Monday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home in Neillsville.  Mr. Scheffer was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society.

 

Pallbearers were: George Dimmitt, August and Charles Kaufman, Lawrence Emer, Jr., Joe Szpak and Herman Mayer.

Kollas of Eau Claire; Miss Ada Scheffer of Middle Ridge; Misses Marie and Ann Scheffer of Eau Claire; Mrs. Neva Yorkston, Delbert C. Struble and Harold Huckstead, all of Neillsville.
