Guttman, Alice L. Rahm (23 APR 1918 - 20 FEB 2012)
Alice L. Rahm Guttman, 93, of
Marshfield, slipped away peacefully at House of the Dove in
Marshfield on Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, where she received wonderful
care from both the professional and volunteer staff and from Dr.
John Przybylinski, whose skill, compassion and understanding,
helped to ease her through her journey.
Alice was born at Veefkind in Clark County on April 23, 1918, the
daughter of Lowell and Ida (Guetschow) Schultz. She received her
education there and in Marshfield. She was united in marriage to
Bernard "Barney" Rahm with whom she had two sons, Ron (Eileen) of
Edgar and Jim (Sue Ellen) of Greenwood who survive her. Also
surviving are four granddaughters, Jen (Bill) Halpaus, Maggie
(Matt) Shupien, Shannon Rahm and friend Max, and Erin (Dave) Kann;
five great-grandchildren, Emily Huston, Jake and Tory Shupien, Ian
and Evan Halpaus. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Helen
Schultz; and many loving nieces and nephews.
After the death of her first husband, Barney, she was united in
marriage to Frank Guttman, with whom she shared 24 years of her
life.
Besides her two husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents;
brother, Lawrence Schultz; brother, Howard; sister-in-law, Virginia
Schultz; and daughter-in-law, Karen.
Alice was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she
served as an elder and deacon, a member of the Women’s Club
and a willing volunteer. She was also a proud member of the Red
Hatters at Park View Terrace, where she has resided for 24 years
and was an avid pool player.
She had many faithful friends from her working days at Cooper
Cheese, Karau's Supermarket Deli and Figis. After retirement, she
enjoyed walking downtown to the Kitchen Table or driving to
Clearwaters for breakfast with her former co-workers. Another
favorite activity was going to lunch bi-weekly with "The Chili
Bunch," a group of friends that had roots in the Chili
area.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at
First Presbyterian Church in Marshfield with the Rev. Dr. Kevin
Buchanan officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11
a.m. until time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to House of the Dove, the
First Presbyterian Church or the donors' choice will be
appreciated.
The Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield is assisting the
family with arrangements.
