Horst, Gilbert G. (convicted of passing bad checks - 14 Sept 1914)
Gilbert G. Horst pleaded guilty before Judge O’Neill Monday of issuing a check without funds and after paying a fine and settling the costs of the case he was released. Some weeks ago Chas. Brandstedter of Humbird cashed a $50 check for Horst and after it was returned from the bank on which it was written, Brandstedter came to Neillsville and Sheriff Hewett was set out after Horst. In a runabout chase, in which Hewett did some pretty clever detective work, Horst was arrested in North Dakota. Hewett had followed the trail through Appleton, Chilton, Ladysmith, St. Paul and Fargo and finally located his man near the latter city. He was brought here and lodged in jail until his trial Monday.
