Kuhlman, L.W. (badly beaten up - 19 Sept 1914)
L.W. Kuhlman, town clerk of the town of Hendren, was badly beaten up last Saturday by Elmer W. Scheckler at his home near Willard. For some cause, justifiable or otherwise, Scheckler jumped onto Kuhlman while the latter was seated in a chair in front of his house and pounded him up badly. Scheckler was caught Tuesday at Grand Rapids after Sheriff Hewett had gotten onto his trail and brought back here the same day by the sheriff and is now lodged in jail awaiting a trial and an opportunity of justifying his act, if he can.
