Bjorn, Sophia (14 JUL 1885 - 28 JUN 1963)
A former Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, Mrs. Sophia Bjorn, 78, of Marengo, Wis., was returned here for funeral services held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 1. Services were held at Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Lauri Isaacson officiating. Burial was made in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were six sons of the deceased, with floral offerings being in charge of Mesdames Ella Kangas, Lily Kile, Grace Finnala, Martha Jensen, June Kangas and Eva Buss.
Mrs. Bjorn passed away June 28, 1963 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Martin (Elsie) Mannisto, at Marengo, where she had been treated for a long illness.
The deceased was born July 14, 1885, in Vaasa, Finland. On June 24, 1908, she was united in marriage to Joseph Bjorn in a ceremony performed in Finland. The couple moved to this country two years later, in 1910, settling at DeKalb, Ill. Five years later they moved to Owen, settling on a farm.
Mrs. Bjorn’s husband passed away in 1941, but she continued to make her home here until 1958, when she moved to Marengo, where she has since made her home with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Mannisto.
Survivors include six sons, Ensio and Edward, Owen; Edwin, Ironwood; Elmer, Tucson, Ariz.; Eino, Zion, Ill., and Eugene, Rockford, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Martin (Elsie) Mannisto, Marengo; Mrs. Donald (Elvira) Fredbeck, Waukegan, Ill.; Jenny Bjorn, Chicago, Ill.; and Mrs. Joseph (Rachel) Wenta, St. Joseph, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
