We all had a fine Thanksgiving vacation with a pleasant surprise of a nice new piano to solicit our attention on Monday morning. We are sure we stayed inside of our limits of purchasing power, as our instrument cost less than $200. We have about $100 ready cash to pay down and for the balance of the principal, will sign a partial payment note, payable on or before two years hence.
We are very thankful to Mrs. Knorr and Miss Myrtle who made a special trip to Marshfield to select the instrument for us. We are also thankful to the strong arms who helped to carry our new friends up the long stairs of the schoolhouse.
Our thanks to Mr. Lautenbach for fixing a steam pipe for us free of charge. Then too, the businessmen who loaned us the use of the pipe wrenches are remembered, even though the wrenches did not as yet, find their way back.
Mrs. and Miss Knorr paid the school a visit Monday to test the piano for sound in the school rooms. Miss Myrtle entertained the upper rooms for 15 minutes by musical selections. The piano was pronounced okay for sound and quality as per purchase price.
The report cards are appearing again this week. Considerable improvement was made by some while many show normal growth.
A Christmas program is nicely underway to be given the 19th of December at the Woodmen Hall at 8 p.m. We hope to be able to have the hall for that night, though at the time the management has not been consulted. We expected to publish the full program in next week’s paper.
The last two weeks of soft weather give us a clear vision of the usefulness of a sidewalk to our educational workshop. Oh yes, the principal ought to get busy with that paper to solicit more subscription money. Yes, in these short days with a full house every day it is a hard task to find extra time to stop some businessman and give him a line of talk on sidewalks. Why not call some meeting and decide on some way of approach, to build from the bridge to Mr. Hugh Berg’s. Hugh says he has a goodly size lumber pile which can be had for very little, timber pieces can be gotten from the woods which will not cost a great deal. The work could be done on the bee order where everybody works. Oh, stop, stop, that will don, well, you say what should be done.
