Speich, John (13 March 1888 - 9 March 1965)

 

John Speich, 76, son of the late Abraham and Anna (Schneider) Speich, died March 9 at his home in Greenwood. He had been in poor health since November.

 

Mr. Speich was born March 13, 1868, in Monroe.  His first marriage took place November 28, 1918, to Emma D. Braun in Greenwood.  She died January 27, 1953.

 

After their marriage they lived on a farm 1½ miles north of Greenwood until 1948, when they retired and moved to the city.  He had resided here since.

 

They had three sons, John D. Speich, who is on the home farm; Robert Speich of Stanley; and Emmett, who preceded him in death in 1920 at the age of six months.

 

His second marriage was to Alice Acker, November 9, 1957, in Yuma, Ariz. She survives.

 

Other survivors are: a step-son,  Donald Acker of Los Angeles, Calif.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Gretchen) Hokenson of National City, Calif.; nine grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Rose) Ludwig of Greenwood; and four brothers, Abe Speich of Ripon, Fred Speich of Pittsville, George Speich of Greenwood, and Harry Speich of Mineral Point.

 

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from Zion United Chruch. The Rev. Orval Egbert officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
