That mild and soft weather took a sudden and severe cold Saturday night with a light fall of snow and strong northwest wind of about 40 miles an hour. But it moderated by Monday and Tuesday was a fine day.
Rev. Peckham was up from Grand Rapids and filled his appointment at Lindsey Sunday. One was almost reminded Sunday that the pastor and janitor are always at church and never late.
Rev. Peckham usually goes home by way of Chili, but Sunday night’s weather was so severe that he stayed over and went down on this line Monday.
Lindsey’s pioneer merchant, Mr. August Broker was a passenger on Monday’s outgoing train for Milwaukee where he expects to purchase a driving horse.
Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Opelt invited Rev. Peckham to dinner Sunday and had their baby sprinkled. The two Gasner girls and Fred Prest were also guests. Mr. Opelt’s brother Max and daughter Lillie from Lynn were down.
Henry Weishoff moved his family out near Chili on Saturday.
Mr. Gasner recently purchased the young black span of horses of Conway.
Dan Messing and Mr. Crance from east of Lindsey went to Milwaukee Wednesday with the expectation to purchase teams.
H.O. Hazel had the misfortune to lose one of his horses recently and purchased another from Herman Hahm.
H.O Hazel has moved his drilling outfit up in the settlement for drilling. He recently drilled a well for Dusc. Johnson.
Dr. Lovesee’s niece, Mrs. Spencer and little son are visiting at the Lovesee home since Wednesday of last week.
Dahlrymple has completed a fine new barn on his place east of Lindsey and H.O. Hazel has built an addition to his dwelling.
W.J. Robinson is enlarging his cellar under the house by hauling out the dirt to bank up the house.
