A Thanksgiving Baby by Gertrude Davis - 6th Grade
Once upon a time there was a married couple. They were very wealthy but still did not seem happy for they had not a child. It seemed very strange to some people, but a few wise ones said, "All people can be happy with money." It was about Thanksgiving time and all the people expected to have a joyous time. But this couple did not seem happy at all. At last, Thanksgiving Day had come. An angel must have come in the night, for when the unhappy couple awoke in the morning, they found a baby on the porch. It was wrapped up as warm as toast. The lady took the baby in and fed it and the man set out to find out to whom it belonged. He came back after an hour’s search. His wife met him at the door. He told her of his failure in finding the baby’s parents. She then said, "We will send up our thanks to God for sending us this beautiful baby." They kept the baby and lived very happily ever after.
