Bardell, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Golden - 2 June 1965)

Two Neillsville couples connected by the marriage of their children will observe their golden wedding anniversaries at a joint open house Saturday evening in the American Legion Memorial Hall here.

They are: Mr. and Mrs. John Gullickson of West Fifth Street and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bardell of Hewett Street. The family connection comes through the Bardells’ son, Wilbur, now a resident of Waukegan, Ill., who married the Gullicksons’ daughter, Helen.

The open house will be from 7:30 p.m. Saturday, with friends of both couples invited to pay their respects. Arrangements are being made by the children of the two couples.

Mr. and Mrs. Gullickson have been married the longer. Their golden wedding anniversary date was passed April 11. The Bardells’ 50^th anniversary will not be reached until June 2.

Mr. and Mrs. Bardell were married in Greenwood June 2, 1915, in the home of Mrs. Bardell’s cousin, the late Wellen Hartson, also a former Neillsville resident.

Mr. Bardell, who in retirement serves as custodian for the First National Bank, was born November 4, 1893, in Freeport, Ill., the son of William and Minnie (Meyers) Bardell.  He attended schools in Freeport and came to Clark County when he was 12 years old. The family settled in the Town of York in the area known by old-timers as "Upper Heintown," where they farmed.

For many years Mr. Bardell plied his trade as a carpenter in various parts of the United States. 

Mrs. Bardell is a native of Clark County.  She was born Nina Parrett, on March 16, 1896, in the Town of York, about seven miles northeast of Neillsville.  She was one of six children of John and Margaret Parrett.  Mrs. Bardell attended schools in the Town of York prior to the wedding on June 2, 1915.  For some time after their wedding, they resided on a farm in the Town of York. The family then moved to Florida, where they remained for 10 years, then moved to Waukegan, Ill., to live for a few years before returning to Neillsville.

In addition to their son Wilbur, of Waukegan, the Bardells have three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
