(Spencer News)
The Municipal hall was well filled with school children and adults at 11:00 a.m. Monday, to listen to the Armistice Day program. At 11::00 o’clock Wilbur Larson blowed taps, with all those present facing the east. Following taps, Junior Plath as a sailor boy, Miss Lorraine Peterson as the Red Cross nurse, stood in the center of the state with the United States flag, and Dale Baldwin as a soldier dressed in khaki stood on the front of the stage and was the reader of the program, the title of which, as announced by J. R. Thomas, was "Memories of 1918." The reading by Dale Baldwin was interspersed by the singing of various songs by a group of young people back of the curtain, such as "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again," "Smiles," "No Land Like Our Land," "Pack Up Your Troubles," "Home, Sweet Home." Miss Janet Holterman and Ralph Karau had readings suitable to the occasion. The singers were Vila Bruesewitz, Violet Marten, Ruth Sersch, Delores Schultz, Bernice Buse, Janet Holterman, Elaine Hubner, Gladys Schultz, Andrella Gleisner, Irma Wachholz, Marjorie Freeman, Dorothy Fisher, Mabel Brockopp, Phyllis Mellenthin. Music by Delores Schultz, Janet Holterman and Elaine Huber on the clarinets accompanied some of the songs, as did music on the violin by Gladys Schultz.
The attendance was not as large as usual, owing to the severe rainstorm.
