Kohlnhofer, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Golden - August 1965)
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kohlnhofer of Greenwood celebrated their golden wedding anniversary August 15, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. A 10 o’clock mass was held in their honor, with the Rev. Edward Hartung officiating.
A dinner was served at noon to 85 relatives and friends. Open house was held from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Mary’s Hall, where a buffet supper was served to 175 guests. The afternoon was spent playing cards and visiting.
Mrs. Kohlnhofer accented her ensemble with a corsage of white and gold carnations and stephanotis; her husband wore the same suit he wore when they were married and a boutonniere of carnations and gold leaves.
The honored couple was married 50 years ago in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood by the Rev. William Hackner, who is living in La Crosse, but was unable to attend. Father Hackner celebrated his golden jubilee in June, 1965.
The attendants of 50 years ago who were present for the celebration were her sister, Mrs. Marie (Schober) Paasch of Milwaukee; cousins of the groom, Mrs. Theresa (Reiderer) Wallender of Reedsville, Alex Meyer of Manitowoc and Joe Schober; her brother, of Manitowish. The latter was unable to attend.
Joseph Kohlnhofer was born January 30, 1887, in Springenberg, Czechoslovakia, Bohmerwald. He came to America in 1904 and settled near Manitowoc, and moved to Greenwood in 1911. His wife the former Margaret Schober, who was born near Millston, July 27, 1895, also moved to the Greenwood area in 1911.
After their marriage in 1915, they settled on a farm four miles northeast of Greenwood and lived there until 1949, when they retired from farming and moved to the city of Greenwood. Both are in excellent health.
Present for the occasion was the honored couple’s seven children, two daughters and five sons and their families, which includes 33 grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Mrs. Joe (Barbara) DeMar of McHenry, Ill.; John Kohlnhofer of Albany, Ore.; Mrs. Joe (Magdaline) Kettner of Menomonie; Victor Kohlnhofer of Minneapolis, Minn.; Clayton and Francis Kohlnhofer of Greenwood; and Joseph Kohlnhofer of Milwaukee. Other friends and relatives came from Cato, Brillion, Clarks Mills, Curtiss, Greenwood, Loyal, Manitowoc, Medford, Menomonie, Sparta, Thorp, and Willard; and from the states of Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota, Oregon, Texas and Wisconsin.
The celebrants received many gifts, a purse of money and many congratulatory messages.
