George, Ray A. (1946? - 23 NOV 1963)
At 10:30 Tuesday morning a requiem mass was said at St. Katherine’s Episcopal Church, Owen, for Ray A. George, 17. The celebrant was Father Richard Hewetson, pastor of the parish.
Serving as pallbearers were three classmates, Gerald Boxrucker, Bill Winslow and James Van Horn, Lawrence Netzer, Thomas Enderson and Al Lis.
Ray, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William George, was a sophomore student in the Owen-Withee school system. He participated some in high school athletics but his greatest love was hunting and fishing, and ironic as it is, it was in this participation that he lost his life when fell by a stray bullet while deer hunting last Saturday morning.
Ray, too, had been active in the boy Scout program here, and a member of the Young People’s Club at St. Katherine’s Church where he also served as an acolyte.
His tragic and sudden passing is mourned by his parents, five brothers, William Jr. of New York, Thomas with the U.S. Army now serving overseas, Brian, who is stationed in California, Gregory of Ric Lake, and Ward at home, and a host of classmates.
