Green, Dale Dever (25 Dec 1952 - 19 Sept 1959)
Dale Dever Green, 6, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dever Green, Loyal, route 1, died at the home of his parents at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 1959.
According to authorities, Dale was riding on the front of the chopper wagon, loaded with six tons of chopped corn, when he apparently jumped from the wagon and stumbled. The left front wheel of the wagon passed over the child’s head and he died instantly.
The accident occurred as the wagon entered the farm yard and was being pulled to the blower behind the barn. Driver of the tractor pulling the chopper wagon was Leonard, 11, brother of Dale.
The boy had been in the field with his father, who was operating the chopper, but apparently decided to go to the house. The grandfather, Emral Green, was operating the blower at the silo.
Clark County Corner Robert Lulloff ruled the death accidental saying no inquest would be held. Sheriff Frank Dobes and Officer Dale Schultz assisted in the investigation.
He is survived by his parents, one brother Leonard, two sisters Diana and Alice, and by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Emral Green of Spencer.
Dale was born in Marshfield, Dec. 25, 1952 and was a pupil in the first grade in the Loyal Public School.
The body was taken to the Free Methodist Church from the Myre Funeral Home at noon Tuesday and funeral services were conducted there at 2 p.m. by the Rev. A.R. Crandall. Burial was in the Spencer Cemetery.
