Stevens, Dr. Byron C. #3 (1 NOV 1853 - 10 JAN 1917)
The whole community learned with a deep feeling of sadness of the death of one of our most honorable and respected citizens, Dr. Byron C. Stevens, Wednesday night, Jan. 10, 1917, of heart trouble, which had baffled the skill of several physicians, the loving nursing of those dear to him, and the fight for life of the brave man himself.
With the loving thoughtfulness of those dear to him, which had characterized all his life, he sought to hid his suffering with the bright smile which had cheered many a passing acquaintance as well as his friends, so others during his walk in life. He had not been confined to his bed and retired at 7:00 Wednesday evening, falling into a peaceful slumber from which he did not awaken. Although he, as well as the family, realized this was a critical illness, so suddenly the end came that not all of the relatives reached his bedside before he passed away.
Byron Connor Stevens, so of Edmund D. and Sarah (White) Stevens was born at Moscow, Maine, Nov. 1, 1853. When about 8 years of age he came with his mother, brothers and sister to Plymouth, Wis. His father had passed away the previous year. In the year 1872 he moved to Clark County and settled on a farm southeast of Spokeville, where he lived until about 14 years ago, when he moved to the village of Spokeville. When about 21 years of age he began the practice of veterinary, which he successfully followed for the remainder of his life, making a host of friends all over the county by his successful and cheerful services. Honorable and upright in every particular, he leaves a clean business record and well established business.
On June 27, 1885 he was married to Miss Emily M. Leonard at York, Wis. No children came to bless this home. The funeral services were held in the Loyal M.E. Church Sunday afternoon, Jan. 14, where the sweet service of song, and the words of consolation by Rev. Clock were administered with loving sympathy to those who mourn so deeply. The remains were taken to the Loyal Cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were O.J. Smith, Chas. Fullmer, Philip Werle, George Albright, Geo. Bouten, and H. Shields. Deceased is survived by his wife, one brother, Lou Stevens of this place, a sister, Mrs. George Eldridge of Sac City, Iowa, eight nieces and ten nephews.
