St. Louis Boy Scouts (At Bruce Mound - 1965)
Last Monday 40 boy scouts from a troop at St. Louis, Mo., were at the mound for skiing, skating and tobogganing. Their leader, Sidney Pfeifer, is a former area resident and was an area leader with the Gateway Boys Scout Council at Whitehall. The boys are making their headquarters at Galesville while they are in the area. They arrived at the ski area by chartered bus.
With the aid of the snowmaking machine and a grooming machine, the hills will be open for skiing every weekend unless there is a sudden warming condition which would cause the hills to thaw.
Bruce Mound is located three miles east of Merrillan and 15 miles southwest of Neillsville on Highway 95.
Excellent over-night accommodations are available in Neillsville, Merrillan, Hatfield and Black River Falls for those who wish to spend a weekend in this winter sports area.
