Braatz, Edith G. (4 October 1881 - 26 December 1965)

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville for Mrs. Edith G. Braatz, 84, of Watertown, who died there Sunday.  The Rev. Norman Lindloff officiated and burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Braatz, the former Edith Kurzrok, was born October 4, 1881, in Burlington. After finishing school, Mrs. Braatz was a telephone operator for many years.  She later came to Granton, where she operated a millinery shop.

On September 29, 1909, she was married to the late Henry A., Braatz in Granton. The family farmed in the Town of Grant, retiring in 1945, when they moved to Neillsville.

For the last three years Mrs. Braatz made her home with her daughter in Watertown.  Survivors are a son, Leonard of Milwaukee; and a daughter, Mrs. Roberta Davis of Watertown; a brother, Oscar Kurzrok of Melbourn, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

"The Lord is My Shepherd" and "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" were sung by Mrs. Harold Mayer accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Dale Meihak.

Pallbearers were: Clarence, Robert, Donald, Norman, and Erwin Braatz, and Ray Kurth.

People from out-of-town attending included: Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Braatz and Alice Braatz of Milwaukee; Roberta Davis, Arlene Gerhardt and Julius Radditz of Watertown; Mrs. Ronald Jackobson and Michael of Crystal Lake, Ill.; Sharon Braatz of St. Louis, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Braatz of Beaver Dam; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Bulgrin, Amos Bulgrin and Andy Miller of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weeks, Bonnie and Linda, of Medford; Rev. and Mrs. Leo G. Moench of Burlington; Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Braatz of Eau Claire. 

Those from Granton were: Dick Grassman, Mrs. Elsie Grassman, Clarence Braatz, Victor Braatz, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Braatz and Janice; Victor A. Braatz and Linda Braatz.  Others attending included: Mrs. Stanley Ihlenfeldt and Richard of Elkhorn; Art Kuechenmeister of Granton; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Jung and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Jung of Jefferson; and Mr. and Mrs. Victor R. Braatz of Egelsbach, Germany.

Mrs. Braatz was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville and of its Ladies Aid.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.
