East Lynn (29 September 1911)

Will Guk who has so far recovered that he can walk around again with the aid of crutches, wished to thank his friends for their sympathy and many acts of kindness when he met with his misfortune.  Although he is on the gain it will be a long time before he can attend to his duties.

A Pusheck helped L. E. Moh fill his silo, Tuesday.

H. Hamm and H. Schultz are putting up a stone wall for C. Guk.

A large gathering of young folks helped Mrs. Louis Sternitzky celebrate her birthday last Thursday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Will Neinas and daughter Clara spent Sunday at R. Guk’s.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Selk and baby and Mr. and Mrs. C. Guk spent Sunday afternoon at W. Albrecht’s.

The farmers in this vicinity have been busy the past few days hauling barley and rye to Chili.

Harry Eide, proprietor of the Banner Cheese factory is having a cement sidewalk built from his house to the factory.

Henry Jensen was a Chili caller Monday.

We have been taking a short vacation on account of busy times, but will now again attend to our duties, providing someone will start some excitement.  Everybody knows that it is a hard matter to send in news when there is nothing doing. The trials and troubles of a newspaper correspondent are many when his neighbors’ are not calling him to account, the Editor goes on the war path.

C. Elchlepp and John Hefty of Chili are in the pumpkin business. The former has one exhibition at his place of business that weighs 176 pounds.  John says he bought it for 35c of a man 4½ miles east of the tamarack swamp, but Joe Hutt says it looks like one that disappeared from his patch one night last week.
