Poppe, Edward (27 SEP 1885 - 23 APR 1960)

 

A requiem mass was said at 9:30 Wednesday morning, April 20 at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Owen, for Edward Ernest Poppe.  Father Aloysius Modic officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Harold Hodnett, Laurence Scheuerman, John Lobacz, Louis McNitt, Henry Tisdale and Donald Poppe.

 

Death came to the deceased Saturday evening at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, from a cerebral hemorrhage.  He had attained the age of 74 years, being born Sept. 27, 1885 in the Town of Longwood.

 

A resident of this community all his life, Edward Poppe was a successful farmer, being active up until the time of his death.

 

He is survived by his wife, the former Mabel Scheuerman, whom he married Oct. 3, 1916, in a ceremony performed at Neillsville.  Other survivors are a son, Edward Bernard, who lives at home; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Eleanor) Welsch, and three grandchildren of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, George, and two sisters, Mrs. George (Louisa) Buker, Owen, and Mrs. Warren (Delia) Poppe of Marble, Minn.

 

Relatives and friends who attended the funeral from away were: Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jorstad of Pueblo, Colo.; Robert Welset of Billings, Mont.; Mrs. Warren Poppe of Marble, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Elton and Mrs. Harley Brothers of De Sota, Wis.; Miss Elsie Scheuerman of St. Paul and Mrs. Edward Kuester of Neillsville.
