Old Settlers Picnic At Unity County Park

Officers Are Elected for Coming Year With Mrs. Harriet Clark As President; Good Dinner Was Enjoyed.

Wednesday of last week Spencer held its annual pioneer picnic at Unity park.  Forty-five in all were present and a bountiful picnic dinner was served.  After the dinner a business meeting was called and the following officers were elected:

President, Harriet Clark of Unity; first vice president, Calla Holterman of Spencer; second vice president, Alice Prehn of Spencer; third vice president, Anna Clark of Spencer; fourth vice president, Geo. Hayward of Spencer; secretary and treasurer, Alice Andrews of Spencer; historian, Maude Kuehnau of Unity.

After the business meeting an impromptu program was given.  It took Geo. Hayward to remember the many amusing incidents of the old Spencer.   After Mr. Hayward, Miss Crowell called the following people who answered to their names by telling something they best remembered:  Ernie Messer, Homer Creed, Geo. Cook, Mrs. Lena McNeight and Mrs. Maude Kuehnau, Unity; Mrs. Effie (DuCate) Cook, Wausau, and Mrs. Holterman of Spencer.

A great many remarks pertaining to the Big Spencer fire about which the Pioneer club centers as it was the 50th anniversary of that fire, five years ago that Spencer had its first homecoming and a year later the club was organized.  They hope to hold next year’s picnic at Spencer.
