Svedja, Winifred (Hickner) (September 24, 1923 - March 2, 2012)
Winifred Svejda, age 88, formerly of Abbotsford, died at Kennedy Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Weston, Friday morning, March 2, 2012.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon Monday, March 5, 2012 at
the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford with Chaplain
Cindy Bachara officiating.
Burial will be in Abbotsford Public Cemetery the pallbearers will be Bob Greene, Chris Lewinski, Joshua Svejda, Jacob Svejda, Joseph Svejda, Sam Armbrust, Avery Svejda and Micah Svejda. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
Winifred was born September 24, 1923, in Colby, to Roy and Velma
(Lucas) Hickner. She attended Marshfield Grade School and graduated
from Marshfield Senior High School. Winifred was a 1945 graduate of
Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in Marshfield.
She was united in marriage to Emil Svejda on November 22, 1945.
Winifred worked at Laphams in Phillips as a nurse and from 1962 to
1985 worked at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.
Winifred enjoyed her cats, traveling, fishing, gardening, tending
to her flowers, everyday coffee at Medo Farms, playing piano and
spending time with her family.
She is lovingly survived by her children, William (Janet) Svejda of
Minneapolis, Joyce Charlene (Thomas) Lewinski of Marshfield, Sue
Ann (friend Ron) Vollmer of Wausau, Lois (Bob) Greene of Milwaukee,
John David Svejda of Colby, David James Svejda of Spencer, James
William (friend Jennifer) Svejda of Medford; 18 grandchildren; and
12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Peterson of Rhinelander
and Joyce Ott of Marshfield.
Winifred is preceded in death by her parents, husband Emil and two
grandchildren.
The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is assisting the
family with arrangements.
