East Lynn (29 December 1911)

C. Bladl and family attended church at Chili Tuesday.

A Happy New Year and a pleasant Fourth of July to you all!

A few days ago we were approached by a stranger and after discussing who might be our next president and a few other important things he suddenly said, "Can you guess who the meanest man in America is?"  We answered promptly and without hesitation: The Editor of the Granton News.  He with a hearty laugh slapped us on the shoulder and said the laurels are yours; you have hit the bull’s eye the first shot.

Mr. and Mrs. C. Guk attended the Christmas program at the M. E. Church in Fremont last Saturday evening.

Adolph Pusheck and family spent Christmas at the home of Ernest Sternitzky.

After a week’s vacation our school will again start with renewed vigor.

John Altenburg and family spent Christmas with his brother Charles.

Chili is rapidly coming to the front.  Their bank with a capital stock of 13 thousand dollars will be built in the spring and good prospects of another railroad and a hundred and one other improvements it does not take a very wise head to foresee that in a few years Chili will be one of the leading cities in the northwest. But there is one thing that the business men are neglecting.  If each and everyone would build sheds on their place of business it would not only be an improvement to the town but would be a great accommodation to the farmers who are trying their best to boost your little town along to make Chicago look like a village along side of it.  Stop and think it over.
