Toptine, Newton Floyd (24
February 1879 - 7 July 1967)
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon
from the Georgas Funeral Home for Newton Floyd Toptine, 88, of Neillsville, who
died here Friday. The Rev. Jack Grether officiated. Burial was made in the
Neillsville City Cemetery.
Mr. Toptine was born February 24, 1879, in
Richland County. He attended school there and came to Clark County in 1995 with
his parents, who w ere engaged in farming in the Shortville community.
On
January 29, 1911, he was married to the former Julia Bell Hallenbeck in Athens.
They farmed, and moved to Neillsville in 1913. He did carpenter work and was
employed by the former O & N Lumber co., retiring in 1951.
He was a
member of the United Church of Christ and Lodge No. 198, International Order of
Odd Fellows.
Survivors are his wife and a daughter, Mrs. Hildegarde
Negard of Cleveland, O.; and two grandchildren.
The Rebekah Lodge
attended the service in a body. I. O. O. F. services were conducted by Nordahl
Fristad.
Pallbearers were: Horace Rodman, George Shaw, Rollie Benedict,
Sam Ray, William Gehrt and Robert Frantz.
Ellis Wall sang, “The Old Rugged
Cross” and “Beautiful Isle,” accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
