High School Notes (7 JAN 1915)
The winter term
opened Monday with teacher and pupils back for work. A number of new pupils are
enrolled in the grades.
During the vacation the buildings have received
the usual cleaning, and, in addition, the floors of the south side buildings
have had the old black oil removed, which improves the appearance of the
buildings very much. New inside vestibules have been put in the south hall of
the old building which makes it possible to keep the hall warmer.
Miss
Ruth Carter has entered high school to complete her high school credits.
Tonight (Wednesday) is the regular time for the picture entertainment at the
high school room. The title of the illustrated lecture is Scenic Wonders of our
West, and of the moving pictures Wonders of the Microscope. The entertainment
begins at 7:45. Everybody is invited and there is no admission.
A number
of accidents happened to pupils during the vacation. Margaret Lowe had the
misfortune to have her leg broken while visiting relatives at Hartland. She was
struck by a coasting sled. Arthur Paulson broke his collarbone. Lillie Beyer is
carrying her arm in a sling as a result of a sprain in a fall.
Lucile
Henze ’14, who is teaching near Granton, is spending part of her vacation
visiting the high school.
To cover the requirements in rhetoricals it has
been found necessary to give about five minutes each morning to the students.
Some of the Friday morning assembly periods have also been used for this
purpose.
J.C. Bartholf of Milwaukee visited high school Monday morning.
New bulletin boards have been placed in the rear of the assembly room.
Walter P. Schatz, the new high school assistant and civic secretary arrived
Monday to begin his duties.
Eastern educational papers have been
commenting very favorably upon some of the new phases of educational work
undertaken by the high school here. Principal W.R. Rood has received numerous
inquiries from cities, some from as far east as Rhode Island, that are
interested in carrying on the same kind of work.
The second big
basketball game of the season comes Friday night when Neillsville meets its old
rival, Mondovi, in the Armory. The game promises to equal the
Arcadia-Neillsville contest in interest. Neillsville is out to win and needs the
support of all.
