Kubat, Marie (14 JAN 1840 - 18 JAN 1915)
Mrs.
Marie Kubat died Monday at her home on the north side. She was born Marie Manek
on Jan. 14, 1840, at Tabor, Bohemia. She grew to young womanhood there and was
united in marriage to John Kubat on Feb. 8, 1863. Mr. and Mrs. Kubat came to
America in 1870, arriving at Baltimore June 18, 1870. They went to West Bend,
Wis., and resided there until March, 1883, when they came to Clark County. They
settled on a tract of land in the town of York which remained their home for
many years. They raised a family of eight children, two of whom, with their
father, are dead. The two deceased daughters are Marie, who died at West Bend,
and Anna, a Franciscan sister, who died at La Crosse in 1904. The remaining sons
are Frank and John of town York, Joseph of New Lisbon, Anton of Portland, Ore.,
William of Marshall, Wis., and Edward of Kansas City, Mo.
Mrs. Kubat was
a lady of exceptional strength of mind and character. She was a true Christian
wife and mother and lived a life of industry and well doing which endeared her
in the hearts of a large acquaintance. The funeral will be held today at 10
o’clock at St. Mary’s Church, of which she was a member.
