Len P. DeMert, 81, of Cassville went to be with his Lord surrounded by his family Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Gunderson Lutheran in La Crosse.

He was born May 10, 1931, in Neillsville, the son of Lawrence and Edna (Grimm) DeMert. Len married Carol Honeysett in 1955. During his lifetime, Len was in the Wisconsin National Guard, a teacher at Footville Elementary and Janesville Marshall Junior High, a counselor at Parkview High School and a salesman for A. O. Smith Harvester. Len and Carol resided in Footville before moving to Minnesota and then back to Wisconsin to live in Cassville. He spent much of his time involved in the communities where he lived, gardening and working in his church. Len served his Lord by loving his family and helping the children of Haiti to get a better education. He raised money to build schools and support orphanages there.

Len is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; their four daughters, Carla (Bruce) Flesch, Platteville, Lynn (Roger) Langseth, Stewartville, MN, Patty (Jack) Nicolay, El Paso, IL, Penny (Marcus) Neal, Mineral Point; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Lau and Audrey Meyer; a brother, David (Joy) DeMert; and a brother-in-law, Ralph (Georgia) Honeysett.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
