Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. James Colby, J.R. Thomas, Mrs. W.I.
Mack and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert white went to Chippewa Falls to attend the
celebration of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Smith at
Rutledge Home.
The Smiths were married at Truax Parsonage by the Rev. Mr.
F.M. Haight, March 21, 1912. The Rev. Haight had served the Methodist Church as
district superintendent of this district.
Following their marriage, Mr.
and Mrs. Smith went to Westmore, Mont. where they homesteaded for eight years.
Then they moved to Madelia, Minn., where they lived six years, and then to
Prescott for three years. Their years since have been lived in the vicinity of
Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls.
They became residence of Rutledge Home in
1956.
Mr. Smith is a native of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), and Mrs. Smith,
the former Mabel Towne, was the daughter of Rev. C. Towne, who was Methodist
minister from 1906 to 1909. She is a graduate of the Loyal High School.
They have four children, Earl of Tulsa, Okla.; Frederic of Augusta; Florence,
Mrs. Stanley Rumphol of Hartland; and Ronald of Anoka, Minn. They have fifteen
grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith has two sisters, Rena Starkey of Fresno,
Calif.; and Mrs. William (Ruth) Cable of Moville, Iowa; and one brother, Charles
Towne of Marshfield.
Mr. Smith has one sister, Mrs. Ada Thomas of
Waukesha County Infirmary.
