Mrs. Arthur Darton died Wednesday, April 4, 1962 at
11:15 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she had been a patient
for the past six weeks. She was 85 years of age.
Funeral services were
held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church and burial was made in the Loyal
Cemetery. Rev. Paul Doering officiating and Royal Neighbor Memorial Services
were also held. The RNA attended in a body.
Pallbearers were David Smith,
Harry Greve, Herb White, Edd Dobbe, George Brenner and Arnold Stumpner. James
Colby sang, “Under His Wings” and “Softly and Tenderly.” He was accompanied by
Mrs. Byron Zepplin at the organ. The Myre Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
The former Olga Rossman was born July 10, 1876 in Sheboygan
County and moved to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) with her parents in 1894. Prior
to her marriage she was employed by the Greenwood Gleaner. After her marriage to
Arthur Darton on Jan. 1, 1896, they lived on a farm in the town of Beaver until
1928, when they moved to the city of Loyal. She has lived here since then. Mr.
Darton died Aug. 2, 1957.
She was a member of the Loyal Methodist Church
and was the last living charger member of the Royal Neighbors of America, which
was establish in 1898. She received a 50 year pin from the group in 1948. As a
member she served as Assistant Marshall for three eyars, Vice Oracle for three
years, Oracle for one year, Past Oracle for one year, Chancellor for twenty two
years, manager for three years.
Surviving are a son High, Loyal, and a
daughter, Mrs. Marcel (Claire) Ketchpaw, Bloomer; three grandchildren eight
great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Noll Nutting, Bozeman, Mont.
She
was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Attending
the service from out of town were Dr. and Mrs. Marcel Ketchpaw, Bloomer; Mr. and
Mrs. Lynn Lawrence, Algoma; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rossman, Withee, and Mrs. Anna
Rossman, Greenwood.
