Marsh, Vet
Petaluma, Ca., January 6, 1914
Dear Editor,
I have been knocking around from place to place
in California for the past three months, changing so often that I have had
little chance to hear much news from the East.
On my arrival in California I stopped in
Sacramento over night, went to Fresno, from there to Porterville where I visited
my daughter Hope, Stanley and Tom Bump families and John Grasser. From there I
went to Oakland by auto which was a long pleasant ride, stopped a while with
Will Osgood. He has a fine home and is doing well. From there across to Frisco,
then up to Marshalls where they are installing a wireless station. Clare, my son
and family were living there, Clare working on the wireless building. He and his
family have since gone back to Petaluma. He has gone to work for the Corless
Engine Co. as attern man in the foundry. I had the pleasure of escorting my two
oldest grandchildren to their first day of school yesterday. The day before
Thanksgiving dinner with Frank and Mary Van Dusen, from there was taken by auto
to a number of places near by. Went to Watsonville, had a fine visit with Lynn
Marsh who has a good position with a large hardware co. New Years Eve I met Hope
in Oakland, coming up to Petaluma for a visit with Clare’s folks, where we are
now together.
As to the climate, until about one month ago it
was warm and dry, since then there has been lots of rain, but very little fog.
Everybody seems glad to see the abundance of rain falling, as it has been very
dry the past two seasons for vegetation. Pastures, grain, gardens, flowers etc.
all looking fine, quite a novelty to me this time of the year. Well, I will
probably be back among you about April 1st. Best wishes to yourself and family
as well as the rest of the old timers, I am,
Yours Truly, Vet Marsh.
