Funeral services
for Irvin J. Mengel, 72, route 3, Marshfield, who suffered a fatal heart attack
in a Spencer store at 5 p.m. Tuesday, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Loyal
Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Doering officiated and burial was made in the
Loyal Cemetery.
Mr. Mengel was born May 5, 1890 in Loyal (Clark Co.,
Wis.) and was married on Oct. 20, 1915 to Jessie Castner, who died in 1935. He
farmed near Loyal for many years and later moved to Curtiss where he operated a
farm for 15 years. In 1958 he came to Marshfield to live near his daughter, Mrs.
Carl Heckel. He was a member of the Royal Neighbor Camp of Loyal.
He is
survived by four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Alice) Heckel, Marshfield; Mrs. Frank
(Ethel) Krueger and Mrs. Clarence (Alveria) Uerling, Colby, and Mrs. Leo
(YeVonnie) Plantico, Owen; two sons, Harry, Marshfield and Robert, Neillsville;
36 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Dolly Wassink, Baker,
Mont. and Mrs. Maude Smith, Dillon, Mont, and two brothers, Bert Mengel, Loyal
and John Mengel, Bozeman, Mont.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded
in death by a child and a brother.
Pallbearers were Vernard Kauffman, Ray
Prior, Henry Boe, Fred Heiking, Chester Smith, Elwin Cook.
Out of town
relatives and friends attended from Marshfield, Colby, Neillsville, thorp and
Owen.
Patty Francis sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Nearer My God to
Thee.” Ruth Zepplin accompanied her on the organ.
