Short, Floyd Eugene (17 May 1927 - 20 October 2012) With Flag

Floyd E. Short, 85, of Neillsville, died Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Floyd Eugene Short was born May 17, 1927, in Neillsville, the son of Eugene and Leah (Cook) Short. After his education, Floyd went to work on the family fur farm. He decided to join the United States Army and served in Korea as a truck driver. After his service, he came back to work on Short’s fur farm with his brothers. Floyd was united in marriage to Joan Amo Sept. 3, 1949, in Black River Falls. When he sold his share of the fur farm, he opened a car dealership and auto garage in Granton. Eventually, he started the Neillsville Painting Service and painted for 20-plus years. Floyd enjoyed cycle riding, trap shooting, hunting and hiking. He was a member of the Neillsville Gun Club and the United Church of Christ. He also enjoyed the daily morning coffee clutch with the guys at the Cozy Kitchen.

Floyd is survived by a son, Bill (Becky) Short of Granton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Mary Jo Riebe; a grandson, Christopher Wesenberg; brothers, Glenn and Dale; and a sister, Jeanette Gaier.

Funeral services for Floyd were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville with Pastor Bill Brown officiating. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at the Gesche Funeral Home and again from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Serving as casket bearers were Wayne Short, Steve Short, Tom Short and Bill John.
