Roger H. Olson, 72, Gallup, N.M. formerly of Greenwood, passed away on Sunday,
Sept. 30, 2012, surrounded by his loving family in Gallup. Funeral services were
held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 5, at St, Francis Catholic Church. Rev.
Eduardo “Lalo” Espinosa Chacon, OFM, officiated.
Military honors were provided by Veterans Helping Veterans. Cremation and
inurnment will rake place at a later date. Pallbearers were Lee Yazzie, Isaac
Olson, Carlos Olson, Lucas Olson, Mark Olson and Roger B. Olson. Honorary
pallbearers were Marcus Olson,Lorenzo Villanueva, Damian Dedrick, MichaelWhite
and Tommy Cordova Jr.
Roger Henry Olson was born on Aug. 15, 1940, in Greenwood, to Leo and Marie (nee
Baron) Olson. He served in the United States Air Force, He was owner/operator of
Olson Refrigeration. He was active with St. Francis Catholic Church, Knights of
Columbus, and Veterans helping Veterans. He was a Boy Scout/Webelos leader; and
a fraternal Order of Police boxing coach. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
He enjoyed hunting, and “Over the hill” softball, but he will best be remembered
as a loving husband, dad, grandpa and neighborhood grandpa. ”Mr. O” was loved
and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Guadalupe Olson, Gallup; his children, Roger
B. Olson Albuquerque, Mark Olson, Gallup, Lynette Olson, Albuquerque, Mark
Olson, Gallup, LaToya Olson, Albuquerque, LaTosha Olson, Gallup, Isaac Olson,
Gallup, Carlos Olson, Gallup, Lucas Olson, Gallup, and Hope Olson, Gallup; six
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Delmond (Karen) Olson,
Thorp and Dale (Debbie) Olson, Abbotsford; one sister-in-law; Mary Olson,
Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by one daughter; Brenda Olson; his parents; Leo and
Marie Barob Olson; his step mother; Frances Olson; and a brother; Leonard.
Cope Memorial Chapel, Gallup, assisted the family with arrangements.
