Godden, Edith Katherine (14 July 1915 - 19 October 2012)
Edith Katherine Godden, age 97, of Balsam Lake, formerly of Thorp, passed away
on Friday, October 19, 2012, at her daughter Katherine’s home in Balsam Lake.
Edith was born July 14, 1915, in Hiles, WI, the daughter of the late Frank &
Katherine (Hickman) Bradle. As a young girl she moved with her family to the
Town of Reseburg, Thorp, graduating from Thorp High School, and then one year of
Business School. On November 6, 1937, she was united in marriage to John Edward
Godden at her parent’s home in the Town of Reseburg, Thorp, WI. They resided in
Thorp with Edith working as the head cook from 1960 to 1969 at Thorp High
School. From 1971 to 1985 she was employed at the Victory Memorial Hospital, and
from 1985 to 1991 she worked at the Thorp Care Center while all along also
helping with the family farm.
Edith is survived by her children: Edward J. (Regina) Godden of St. Peter’s, MO,
Katherine C. (Tommy) Leisz of Balsam Lake, WI, Ruth Ann Godden of Eau Claire,
WI, and Grace M. Smith of Gravois Mills, MO; one sister, Wilma F. (Gilbert)
Alger of Thorp, WI; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one
great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and one sister, Ruth
Marie Brunett.
Private family services were held at the Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley with
inurnment taking place in the East Thorp Cemetery.
