Cukla, Sister Paulette (22 JUN 1932 - 25 APR 1965)

Sister M. Paulette, a former resident of Thorp, was fatally injured Sunday in a traffic accident while enroute from Beaverton, Ore., to San Francisco. the crash occurred when a tire blew out on the car in which she was riding. A woman companion also was killed.

Funeral services will be held this morning, Thursday, at St. Joseph's Convent chapel. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery.

Sister Paulette, the former Geraldine Cukla, was born June 22, 1932, at Thorp, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cukla. She entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Stevens Point, in 1948. She taught at Stevens Point and last year joined the Movement for a Better World Promoters Group, a Catholic organization which promotes retreats among religious and lay people. She had just completed conducting a retreat for young people at Beaverton.

In addition to her parents, Sr. Paulette is survived by a sister, Mrs. Clayton Aumann, Green Bay; a brother, David at home, and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ann Cukla, Thorp.

Obituary

Sister M. Paulette A former teacher at Maria High School, Sister M. Paulette, 32, was killed Sunday in a traffic accident while en route from Beaverton, Ore., to San Francisco, The crash, occurred when a tire blew out in the car in which she was riding. A woman companion was also killed.

Sister Paulette, a girlhood resident of Thorp, taught religion at Maria in 1962-63. She was also mistress of aspirants at St Joseph's Convent here during that time.

In September 1964, she joined the Movement for a Better World Promoters Group, a Catholic organization which seeks to promote better Christian living through retreats for religious and lay people. On Sunday, she had completed a six-day retreat for young people at Beaverton. The body will be brought to Stevens Point and funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Convent Chapel. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel from 4-5:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Sister Paulette, the former Geraldine Cukla, was born at Thorp June 22, 1932, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cukla. She entered the convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph here in 1948 and received her habit in 1949.

After 1951. she taught in elementary and high schools in Iowa and Wisconsin. Sister Paulette received her bachelor's degree from Alverno College, Milwaukee, and her master's degree in sacred doctrine from Regina Mundi Institute, Rome, Italy, where she studied from 1959-62. She did post-graduate work at Loyola University, Chicago, last summer.

Survivors are her parents, who live in Thorp; a sister, Mrs. Clayton (Bemadette) Aumann. Green Bay; a brother, David, at home; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ann Cukla, Thorp. The Dzikoski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
