NOTED CITIZEN OF NEILLSVILLE DIES CYRUS S. STOCKWELL, 83, WAS CLARK COUNTY COURT CLERK 16 YEARS; FUNERAL THURSDAY

Neillsville, Wis. — Cyrus Simeon Stockwell, 83. prominent resident of this city, passed away at his home here at 4:30 this morning after a week's illness with influenza. Funeral services are to be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Neillsville armory, with Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. The local Masonic lodge will have charge of the services. Interment will be made in the Neillsville cemetery.

For 16 years Mr. Stockwell was clerk of the Clark county circuit court, and for the same length of time he was a member of the Neillsville school board. He was grand lecturer of Royal Arch Masons in Wisconsin for 24 years, Grand Master of the order in 1916; Grand Patron of the Eastern Star, Clark county surveyor for a number of years, and founded the Neillsville library.

Mr. Stockwell was married in 1870 to Mary Carles (Carless), who passed away in 1918. He was remarried to Kathenne Alexander in 1920. His wife and eight children, Cyrus Jr. of Eau Claire, Thomas of Dallas, Ore.; Israel of Volga, S. D.; Mrs. F. S. Thomas of Lisbon, N. D.; Mrs. E. G. Wanner of Bismarck, N. D.; Mrs. William Holway of Madison; Mrs. F. J. Baer of Neillsville and Arthur of near Neillsville, survive him.

Mr. Stockwell was born February 11, 1845, at Kenockee, St. Claire county, Michigan After reaching manhood he taught for several years in Michigan and then moved to LaCrosse county, Wisconsin, settling in Onalaska. He served as superintendent of La Crosse county schools for a time. He moved to Clark county 45 years ago, taking up residence in Sherwood, where he engaged in the lumbering business. Four years later he came to Neillsville.
