Mr. and Mrs. Albert Davel, who have been married since October 8, 1902,
celebrated their diamond jubilee Sunday with all their eleven children attending
except one daughter.
The couple was honored at the 10 a.m. High Mass at St. Anthony's Catholic
Church, for which Rev. Norbert E. King officiated. The altar boys were their
grandchildren, Timothy, John and Patrick Phair of Oshkosh, and Peter Davel of
Loyal. Lector was Michael Phair, a student at St. Henry's Seminary at
Belleville, Ill.
Following the Mass a dinner was served in the church a hall to approximately
seventy members of the family. A supper was also served there. Mixed summer
flowers decorated the tables, as on the church altar.
Mrs. Davel was presented with a corsage of gold throated white orchids with
diamond brilliants while Mr. Davel wore a white carnations boutonniere.
This was the first time since the Davel's golden wedding anniversary that the
family has had a reunion. A daughter, Mrs. James (Kathry) Babb of Long Island,
N.Y., was unable to attend.
Mr. Davel was born Oct. 31, 1874 in Germany and is now 87 years old. His parents
were Mr. and Mrs. John Davel. He was educated in the Spencer schools and lived
in the Loyal (Clark Co., Wis. And Spencer areas before his married at St.
Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal, in 1902. He started the Davel store in 1907,
which is presently owned by his son Lawrence. He retired from it June 9, 1947.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Church and joined the Knights of Columbus in
1915, and became a fourth degree in 1920. He also belongs to the Holy Name
