Trunkel, Sophie (07 Oct 1917-21 Oct 2012)

Sophie M. Trunkel, 95, Willard, died on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Neillsville Care & Rehab. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 29, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. Rev. Joseph Follmar will officiate. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Wessel, Steven Andrerasen, Richard Trunkel, Jeffry Trunkel, Jason Severson, Benjamin Severson and John J. Trunkel. Visitation will be held at the church, on Monday, from 10 a.m. until of service.

Sophie Marie Gosar was born on Oct. 7, 1917, in Willard, the daughter of Frank and Mary (nee Remzgar) Gosar. She attended Rocky Normal School, Greenville High school, Neillsville County Normal School and UW Eau Claire. She taught at West Eaton School for four years and at Janesville Settlement for three years. Sophie then did work as as arc welder at Moore Dry Dock shipyard in Oakland, Calif. She married John Trunkel on Aug. 2, 1943, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. In 1945, after John was discharged from the U.S. Army, they purchased the Anton and Anna Trunkel farm in Willard. In 1978, they sold the farm to their son, John W. Trunkel, but continued to live on the farm until 1991, when they bought a home near Greenwood. Her husband died on March 31, 1992. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and sang in the choir, K.S.K.J. Lodge, the Slovenian Singers, the Druzba Club and Slovenian Women’s Union. She had many interests but especially enjoyed flowers, sewing, crafts, fishing, family gatherings, singing in the church choir, and helping at church events.

She will be dearly missed by her children, John W. (Carol) Trunkel, Willard, Robert (Joanne) Trunkel, Greenwood, Jacob (Sarah) Trunkel, Willard, Daniel (Crystal) Trunkel, Willard and Kathleen (Dale) Severson, Curtiss; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; Four sisters, Cecelia Shaw, Marshfield, Julia Kuznacic, Sheboygan, Ann Sladish, Owen, and Angie (Roman) Stroinski, Thorp; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John F. Trunkel; two daughters, Judith Andreasen and Ann Trunkel, in infancy. Two brothers, Frank Gosar in infancy, and Tony Gosar; and two sisters, Mary Artac and Sr. Antonia (Frances) Gosar.
