Pleasant Ridge (18 Feb 1915)
Last Wednesday about 4:30 the school house basement was found to be on fire and
smoke came up into the main part of the building so that no one could enter. Not
even a book was saved. In an hour it was burned to the ground, but the chimney
stood until the men tore it down the next day. Monday afternoon there was a
school meeting at H.O. Huckstead’s. County Supt. Miss Kennedy and Civic
Secretary Walter Shatz were out and plans made to erect a new up-to-date school
house.
Monday afternoon five of the 8th grade pupils started at the Neillsville school,
Mary and Elsie Huckstead, Marie Carter, Nina Selves and Irene Root.
Lester Carter and bride of Crandon are spending this week with his parents,
Henry Carter and wife.
