DEATH OF MRS. MARTIN V.
AYERS
Margaret Annie Miller was born near West
Bend in Washington county, March 30th 1849. She died August 13,
1923.
When she was seven years old her parents with their family came to
Clark County, making the journey with an ox team and lumber
wagon.
They settled on and cleared up a farm Northwest of Neillsville. Her
father was obliged to cut out his own road in order to reach this
farm. Here she grew to womanhood, surrounded by real pioneer
conditions. She was married to Anton Weininger and lived for a time
in Black River Falls. To this union was born one son, Joseph, who
died in his eighth year, August 13, 1873 being the same day and
month upon which his mother died.
On May 6th 1872 she was united in marriage to Martin V. Ayers and
spent most of her married life with him on a farm in the town of
Grant.
Here she labored and endured all of the hardships which fell to the
lot of women on the new farms of fifty years ago.
Her husband died twelve years ago this summer after which she moved
to Neillsville where she has spent most of her time since. She
leaves to mourn her loss three sons and one daughter, namely: Mrs.
August Roder, Gutstavus R., Jay V. and Lambert M. Ayers, also nine
grandchildren. She is survived also by her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth
Ayers who at the age of seventy-nine is the last of a family of
five children. Her aged sister also helped care for her during her
last illness. She has suffered much from poor health for several
years but bore her sufferings with great patience. She was a kind
neighbor a hard working industrious woman and a kind devoted
mother.
Funeral services were held Wednesday August 15 at the
Congregational Church the pastor, G. W. Longenecker,
officiating.
