JOHN F. BARKLEY LAID TO REST.

John Fredrick Barkley, who has been a resident of this city for the past nineteen years, died at his home Tuesday, February 14, 1917, at the age of fifty-five years, three months and four days. Mr. Barkley had been in his usual health until early Tuesday afternoon, when he was suddenly taken ill. The cause of his death was pectoral angina.

John Fredrick Barkley, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Barkley, was born at Sandusky, Wisconsin, on November 10, 1861. He was united in marriage to Miss Viola Estes in September 1887. About nineteen years ago he moved with his family to Greenwood, since which time he has been a resident of our city. For the past seventeen and one half years he has been employed in the hardware department at the Big Store, and was always a faithful worker.

The body was taken to Sandusky, Wisconsin, last Thursday where Christian Science funeral services were held from the United Brethren Church, a speaker from Madison being present who had charge of the service.

Deceased leaves to mourn his early demise, his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Dr. H. R. Schwarze, one brother, George Barkley of Sandusky, Wis., one sister, Mrs. Arabella Holmes of Mather, Wis., and two half sisters, Julia and Nettie Zwieg of Sandusky, Wis.
Mr. Barkley was a man of generous impulses, upright character and good purposes. He was a man of loyal friendships. He gave his friends his personal interest, receiving his reward in his gratification of their success.

He was a good man to his family and a good man to his neighbors. He was honest, just and straightforward in his relations, and frank in the expression of his opinions, which were based upon his own judgment. He was a jovial man and it was a rare occasion, indeed, when he was not ready to extend some pleasantry with his daily greetings to his friends.

He had many friends, those who admired his honesty, his integrity and his habits of industry and whose esteem and regard for him came from an acquaintance reaching far back into the past.

The sincere sympathy of all goes out to his sorrowing family in their bereavement.

EMPLOYED AT THE BIG STORE FOR THE PAST EIGHTEEN YEARS

The community was shocked to learn of the sudden death of Mr. John Barkley on Tuesday afternoon, February 13th, 1917. Mr. Barkley was taken ill Tuesday afternoon, but nothing serious was expected. As usual he went to work after dinner and upon arriving at the Big Store, where he has been employed for the past eighteen years, he did not feel very well and went to his home where he died a few hours later.
