OTTO C. BEHRENS LAID TO REST

Otto c. BEHRENS, son of Mrs. Chas. ROSEMAN, was born February 16, 1863 at Milwaukee and at the age of 16 came with his mother to Neillsville, where he resided until his marriage.

On April 12, 1891 he was united in marriage at Loyal to Miss Louise CUMMINGS of Greenwood. To this union were born three sons, Clyde of Greenwood, Carrol of Stevens Point, and Fred of Greenwood.

Mr. and Mrs. BEHRENS came to Greenwood immediately after their marriage and have resided here for the past 47 years, Mr. Behrens working in the woods as foreman both in camps and on the river. He also had the honor of being the first driver of the stage between Greenwood and Withee.

He passed away at his home in this city Tuesday morning, October 4, 1938 at 12:15 o'clock after an illness of two years duration, altho he was up and around until about 2 months ago. He had cancer of the throat.

He is survived by his wife and three sons, two sisters, Mrs. Fred BELORE of Edmonton, Canada, Mrs. Henry MAHAR of Neillsville, one brother, Alex of Greenwood, five grandsons, Robert, Eugene and Charles of Stevens Point and Douglas and Tommy of Greenwood and a step sister-in-law, Mrs. Louise ROSEMAN of Loyal.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon October 6, 1938 at 1:30 o'clock from the home and at 2:00 o'clock from the local M. E. Church, Rev. GAYLORD officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood cemetery.

During the services Mrs. Louis Behrens and Mrs. Herbert SCHWARZE sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Abide With Me", accompanied on the piano by Mrs. John MENG.

The esteem with which Mr. BEHRENS was held in this community was shown by the numerous beautiful floral offerings.

The pallbearers were Perry VOLK, Carl STABNOW, Harry STAFFORD, Adelbert WELLS, Louis BROWN, and Jay CRONIN.

Those who had charge of the flowers were Mrs. Chas. LUDWIG, Mrs. Louis BROWN, and Mrs. Kit CHRISTIE and Mrs. J. S. ANDREWS.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Carroll BEHRENS and sons of Stevens Point Mrs. Louise ROSEMAN and Mrs. Clara ROSSOW of Loyal Mrs. Josie MAHAR, Julie NEVERMAN, Mrs. Amelia JACKSON, Mrs. Mae WILLIAMS, Neillsville Mrs. Otto ANDERSON, Stevens Point, and the following ten members of the Wisconsin Public Service Merit Club of Stevens Point of which Carroll Behrens is a member: Gerald LARSON, Louis ANDERSON, Walter REED, Erie WALTERS, Wm. RUFF, Tom BENSON, Tom PARKS, Frank CHYLINSKI, Tony NELSBORSKI and Harold MATTHEWS.
