Borde, Herbert G. (1909 - 1968)
Herbert G. Borde, 59, of Albany, Oregon died December 1,
l968, after open heart surgery last week in a Portland
hospital.
He was born August 18, l909, in Neillsville, Wisconsin, son of
Gustave and Emma (Kind) Borde. He married Fern E. Rowe on June 4,
1930. They lived in Neillsville until 1950 when the family moved to
Albany, Oregon, where he owned the Coast to Coast Hardware Store
and later served as an accountant for various firms in Albany. He
was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as head of a
church building program as well as directed the choir for a number
of years.
Surviving are his widow, Fern, Albany three daughters, Jeannine
Borde, Portland, JoAnn Johnston, Puyallup, Washington, and Judith
Muller, Albany two sons, Armand, Salem, and Gale, Beaverton a
brother Walter Borde of Edgerton, Wisconsin, and sister Viola
Buehler, Elgin, Illinois, and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Immanuel Lutheran
Church with Rev. Herbert Boehne officiating. Internment will be in
Twin Oaks Memorial Park.
Fern Eleanor Borde, 80, was born May 4,l911, in York Center,
Wisconsin, the daughter of Ernest G. and Grace E (Mortimer)
Rowe.
Fern graduated from Neillsville High School in l929. She married
Herbert G. Borde on June 4, l930 and they lived in Neillsville
until moving to Albany in l950 where her husband was an accountant.
He died in l968. She was employed at Oregon State University, Dept.
of Housing for 23 years as a payroll administrator. In l968 she was
installed as President of the Corvallis Chapter of the Oregon State
Employees Association. She retired in l975 and her hobbies included
quilting, needlepoint, and gardening. She was a member of Immanuel
Lutheran Church and organist for other churches for several
years.
Surviving are three daughters, Jeannine Borde, Portland, JoAnn
Johnston, Puyallup, WA, and Judith Vandervort, Portland two sons,
Armand, Salem and Gale, Albany one sister, Isla Bandelow of
Menomonie, WI, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Walter R. Borde, age 89, of 65l Albion Road, Edgerton, died on
Thursday, May l8, l989,at the Edgerton Memorial Community Hospital.
He was born on September 9, l899, in Jefferson County, the son of
Gustave and Emma (Kind) Borde. He married Elizabeth Carl on June
l4, l930, in Neillsville. He had farmed in the Neillsville area
until l946, and in the Edgerton area since l954. He was a member of
St. John Lutheran Church, Edgerton, the Albion Civics Club, and he
enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth two daughters, Mrs. Ellen
(Clifford) Swann of Edgerton; and Barbara Borde of Madison; and a
granddaughter, Diane (Lon) Michener, and a great-grandson, Blake,
both of Golden Valley, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 22, l989, at 11 a.m.
at St. John Lutheran Church, Edgerton, with the Reverend Wilfred
Grieser officiating. Burial will be in Fassett Cemetery.
