Henke, Sister Dolores (10 Aug 1932 – 24 May 2023)


Sister Dolores Henke, 1932-2023, 90, died peacefully on May 24, 2023 at Ladysmith Care and Rehab.


She was bom in Thorp, Wis., on August 10, 1932, to Emil and Anna (Baldeschwiler) Henke. She joined the Servants of Mary in Ladysmith in 1953 and received the religious name Sister Mary Marcelline.


She held a BA in elementary education from the College of St. Catherine, Saint Paul, Minn., and an MA in religious education from Loyola University Chicago.


As a teacher and later a principal, she worked for sixteen years in the Catholic school system in Weyerhaeuser, Wis.; Saint Paul, Minn.; and Chicago, 111. In 1971 she joined the staff of the Christian Renewal Center in the Superior diocesan office of religious education, focusing on adult and family education. She later ministered at Newman University Parish, Stevens Point, Wis.; Christ the King Parish, South Bend, Indiana; and Causeway Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, La Crosse, Wis.


She served on the Servants of Mary leadership team for ten years and as the order's director of communications and development. She was also president of Church Woman United of La Crosse.

 


She is survived by her twin sister Dorothy (Henke) Wozniak of Stanley; her sister Ruth (Henke) Rose of Onalaska; many nieces and nephews; and the Servite Sisters, with whom she shared life for 70 years.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Anna; brother Lawrence Henke; sisters Sister Alice Henke, OSM, Eileen (Henke) Graham, Marie Henke, and Marian (Henke) Pabich.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Ladysmith with Fr. Papi Reddy Yeruva and Don and Doug Sorenson officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Nash-Jackan Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

On Friday, May 25, 1979 seventeen students graduated from a Nursing Assistant’s class at Memorial Hospital in Neillsville. The class offered by Eau Claire Technical Institute and held in Neillsville, consisted of 180 hours combined classroom and clinical instruction. The instructor was Mrs. Jeanette Senn, R.N. of Thorp. Mrs. Dixie Kennedy of Eau Claire presented the certificates at the graduation ceremony.

News: Greenwood – Groundbreaking for Adult Dev. Center (May – 1979)

“A few days of warm dry weather and construction will be underway.” That was the statement made last Thursday by Paul a Hagel of Kratt-Myers Associates, Inc., La Crosse, architects for the new Clark County Adult Development Service (ADS) to be constructed at Greenwood.

Hagel joined members of the Clark County board and a group of interested citizens in groundbreaking ceremonies at the new scene in the Greenwood Industrial Park. He had met Thursday morning with the Unified Services Committee of the county board and contractors setting up construction procedures.

The ADS building will be 80 x 130 of one story, steel frame, metal panel construction. In addition to its primary use for the developmentally handicapped citizens of Clark County, it is hoped other county agencies will be able to utilize parts of the building during hour the Development Service is not using it. Such agencies would possible by the County Nurses office and the U-W Extension.

Miss Carol Ann Bukovec, Route 1, Greenwood, and David Eugene Walter, Route 2, Loyal, were united in marriage on Saturday, May 26, 1979 at 1 o’clock on Saturday, May 26, 1979 at 1 o’clock at St. Anthony’s Church, Loyal. Father Chester Osowski performed the ceremony and the organist was Chris Weis, Stratford, and the soloist was Jan Lemke, Marshfield.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bukovec, Route 1, Greenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Walter, Route 2, Loyal.

The bride and groom were given away by their parents.

The bride was seen in a white, high waisted dress with lace over bodice, lace appliques on the skirt, detachable lace train (chapel length), waist length veil, veil cap, with pearl trim on the dress collar and cuffs. She carried a bouquet of red roses and baby’s breath.

Maid of honor was Miss Mary Lee Bukovec, Eau Claire, and the bridesmaids were Mrs. Richard (Joan) Bukovec, Loyal, and Mrs. Steve (Judy) Nowicki, Marshfield..

They wore princess style dresses with flared skirts and a cape of netting over the shoulders in coral, yellow and green respectively. They carried bouquets of daisies and mums to match their dresses and daisies to match their dresses in their hair.

Mrs. Gerald Walter, Loyal, performed the duties of best man, the groomsmen were Mr. were Dennis Strey, Marshfield, and Larry Wolf, Spencer. The ushers were William Bukovec, Greenwood and Ken Walter of Loyal.

There was a wedding dinner at the Loyal American Legion Hall at 4:40 and a dance in the evening from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

The bride is a 1972 graduate of Greenwood High School and a 1975 graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing. She is a registered nurse. The groom graduated in 1971from Loyal High School and from Mid-State Technical Institute, Marshfield in 1973. He is engaged in farming.

They are planning a honeymoon in the fall. They reside at Route 2, Loyal.
