OBITUARY--Brown, Lemont E. (1851 - 1903)
Lemont E. Brown, whose death was reported in
our last issue, was born at Benton, Maine, April 17th, 1851. He cam
to Clark county in 1868 at the age of 17 and worked in the woods
for a few years. As superintendent for the John Paul Lumber Co. of
La Crosse he conducted their logging business on Black river for
many years. Later he went into partnership with G. D. Hosely, and
logged in northern Wisconsin for several years. The logging
business was profitable and Mr. Brown retired in comfortable
circumstances. He later purchased an interest in the Neillsville
flouring mill which interest he still held at the time of his
death, together with considerable other property.
Deceased leaves a widow, Laura E. Brown and the following brothers
and sisters: Emma F. Robinson of this city Henry Brown, living on
the home farm Waterville, Me. David Brown, Benton Me. and Mrs. Rose
Wells, Clinton, Me. The mother now in her 88th year, resides with
her son Henry.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by
the Masonic lodge. Rev. Longenecker offered prayer and the male
quartette sang several selections.---Neillsville News.
