Mrs. B. E. Buland Succumbs at Home
Mrs. Bertha E. Buland, prominent club woman
and one of the founders of the Research club, died from a heart
attack Sunday at her home, 1787 SE Maple street. Tentative funeral
arrangements are set for Thursday afternoon in Edward Holman Son
Chapel. Graveside services will be held in Whittle cemetery, Castle
Rock, Wash.
Mrs. Buland was born in (Clark County) Wisconsin, September 5,
1862, and taught school until her marriage in 1883 to George
Buland, a practicing physician and banker. They moved to Castle
Rock, Wash., in 1900 where Mrs. Buland was a school director for
many years and past president of the Woman's club and the Woman's
Christian Temperance Union.
In 1912, she moved to Portland and here became a member of the
First Congregational church, past president of the City Federation
of Women's clubs, and the Woman's club, member of the Research
club, the Sorosis club, and the W. C. T. U. She was interested in
peace and for many years was chairman of the international
relations committee in the Woman's club. She was also state W. C.
T. U. chairman of the international relations committee in the
Woman's Club. She was also state W. C. T. U. chairman for the
scientific temperance education work for the public schools of
Oregon.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. George N. Campbell, Kalama,
Wash., and Mrs. Elizabeth Bryan, Tacoma, and son George L. Buland,
Larchmont, NY five grandchildren, Lieut. George B. Campbell, United
States nave, overseas, Mrs. Sidney B. Lewis, Salt Lake City, Mrs.
James W. Wiley, Portland and Nan and George L. Buland Jr., New
York, and two great-grandchildren.

Bertha E. Mason Buland
Bertha E. MASON married Dr. G. L. BULAND after he moved to
Greenwood after he graduated from Rush Medical School and settled
in Clark County to practice medicine.
