OBITUARY OF MRS. CHARLES CHURKEY (1884-1926)
Mrs. Charles Churkey passed away at about
10:00 Friday evening March 5th, 1926, at the age of 42 years, 2
months and 10 days., after a very brief but severe illness which
began at ten in the morning and lasted until ten in the
evening.
Mrs. Churkey, formerly Jennie Emmeline McCammant was born December
23, 1884 at Van Horn, Benton Co., Iowa. When she was a year old her
parents moved with her to Millersburg, Ia., where she grew up and
was married March 23, 1903 to Mr. Charles Churkey of Deep River,
Ia. After their marriage they made their home in Deep River until
March 20, 1907, at which time they moved to Hayward, Wis. In the
following September they moved to Greenwood, Clark County, where
they remained 18 years, making many friends which remain with
relatives to mourn her sudden death. In the summer of 1925 they
purchased a farm near Owen, Wisconsin, where they still resided at
her death.
Two daughters, Loretta Angeline and Gladys Leona, who died in
infancy, preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband four sons, Marvin
Leslie, aged 22 David Emmanuel, age 16 Charles Donald, age 10 and
William Burton, age 5 four brothers, Henry of Greenwood David of
Millersburg, Ia. Joshua and Edward of Montezuma, Ia., and two
sisters, Mrs. Mary Foot of Baker, Mon., and Mrs. Anna Schrader of
Audubon, Ia.
The remains were laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery beside her
two infant children.
She was a woman held in high esteem by all who knew her and made
friends easily wherever she went. She will leave a vacancy hard to
be filled and will not soon be forgotten.
