MRS. V. J. CLUTE AT REST (1866-1904)

Sunday evening, May 15th, about 6:20 p.m. at the close of a lobely day, Mrs. Minnie B. Clute, wife of Vernon J. Clute, closed her eyes to the world with its pains and sorrows, and passed through the "transition" called "death" to a higher and better life.

She was born at Wilton, Monroe county, Wis., May 13th, 1866. She passed her school days at Elroy, Wis., and Monroe, Green County, moving with her parents to Janesville, where she lived 15 years and was married there five years ago the 7th of June. She then lived in Milwaukee, coming to Greenwood 3 1/2 years ago. She leaves her husband, a little son 2 1/2 years of age and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Burroughs, and many friends to morn her loss. She was a member of the Presbyterian church in Janesville and the Eastern Star and Royal Neighbors lodges in Greenwood. "It is not all of life to live nor all of death to die."

The funeral service was held yesterday afternoon from the Presbyterian church, Rev. J. K. Griffis of Neillsville preaching the sermon. The body was escorted by the Royal Neighbors and Eastern Star societies, deceased having been a member of both orders. The remains were laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.

RESOLUTIONS OF CONDOLENCE.

Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God, in his wisdom, to call from our number our esteemed sister Minnie B. Clute, therefore,
Be it resolved, by Greenwood Chapter No. 137, Order of the Eastern Star, that in the death of sister Clute we mourn the loss of a devoted worker, who inspired hope and patience in all of her associates and beautifully exemplified the noble teachings of our order. While we cannot understand why our Loving Father deemed it best to call her from us, yet we humbly bow to his will, knowing full well that the Just One doeth all things well and according to his supreme wisdom. That we hereby express to the bereaved parents and husband of our lamented sister our heartfelt sympathy. And that in token of our sorrow the charter be draped in mourning for the usual period of thirty days that these resolutions be spread on the records of this chapter, and published in the Greenwood Gleaner, and that an engrossed copy of same be delivered to the family of deceased.
