GEORGE COX (1911-2000)
George COX, 88, a resident of the Town of
Wilson, died January 15, 2000, at Victory Medical Center in
Stanley.
He was born August 20, 1911, in the Town of Wilson, the son of
Frank and Edith (FIDLER) COX and grew up in the Wilson area.
George worked in the woods, farmed in various areas, and spent some
time in Oregon and Indiana before entering the US Army during World
War II. He fought in the European Theater and in the Normandy
Invasion. Amongst other honors, George was a recipient of the
Purple Heart. Following the war, he returned to the Stanley area
where he worked in the woods and continued farming.
George is preceded in death by his parents one daughter, Alice one
sister, Dorothy KNITTER and two brothers, William and James COX. He
is survived by nieces and nephews.
He had a great love for horses and people, and enjoyed visiting
daily at The Renegade. He is going to be missed.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Plombon Funeral
Home with burial in Edson Union Cemetery. Plombon Funeral Home was
in charge of the arrangements.
