ACCIDENTAL DEATH--Cox, John ( -1905)
John COX, an old resident of this vicinity shot himself last
Thursday night Jan. 26, at about eleven o'clock. He was not well at
the time, not having been able to lie down and sleep for some time
past. His wife heard him move about the room and then heard a sharp
sound. He was found dead on the kitchen floor, a bullet having
passed through his heart and out at the shoulder. There was a mark
in the wall and in the ceiling of the next room, showing that he
must have been standing at the time of the shot. Back of the
kitchen stove were three ranks of wood from the top of which he
took the rifle and it is probable that the hammer caught on the
wood and discharged the gun when he picked it up. The jury
impaneled by Justice CLUTE, consisting of A. S. ARMSTRONG, G. W.
BISHOP, Vern CLUTE, W.W. HARLOW, Claud CARTER and C.C. HOEHNE, gave
a verdict of accidental shooting at the inquest Friday.
